How to take care of your Warehouse in the winter months

In 2013, crowned Lubbock, Texas the winner of “Worst Weather City in America.” No one knows that to be true more than we do! From the famous wind to the unpredictable snowfall to severe heat, Lubbock truly does have it all. At North Quaker Warehouses, we don’t want you to be caught unprepared during the winter months! Temperatures often drop below freezing overnight, and we’ve been known to receive an average of seven inches of snow a year. This is why it is important to prep your warehouse for the winter. We may be a couple months out from colder weather, but it is never too early to start preparing!

To prepare your warehouse for winter, there are several steps you can take to ensure that all will be as it should come spring. As temperatures begin to decline you will want to check on the status of heat generation. It may be wise to invest in a high-volume, low-speed fan that can assist in regulating the temperature of your unit. Keeping the temperature consistent in your unit will help keep costs to a minimum. North Quaker Warehouses are 25’ by 50’ and come with a restroom in each unit. Because of the built-in restroom, there are precautions unit owners should take to ensure that pipes do not freeze or bust. Keep an eye on the weather, and when it is predicted to drop below freezing, keep a small trickle or drip of water running. The flow of water will prevent pipes from freezing and causing a bigger issue later should they then bust. If you turn on your faucet after a hard freeze and only a small trickle comes out, it is likely that your pipes are frozen. Leave the water running (even at only a trickle) as you locate the frozen pipe and then gently apply heat using a hot towel or let the landowner know, and they’ll be sure to get maintenance out to take care of it for you! Leaving the door to the restroom open rather than closing it when you leave will also allow air to circulate through, which reduces the risk that your pipes will freeze.

Summer may still be in full swing, but winter will be here before you know it! Take steps to prepare your warehouse for the cold months before they arrive, and give North Quaker Warehouses a call today!
